Consultation – “Safeguarding our Rural Schools and Improving School Consultation Procedures”

A consultation on proposals for improving the way in which school closure proposals might be handled in the future.

The full consultation plus a short summary leaflet is available online on the Scottish Government website at: www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations and via the Parentzone website at www.parentzonescotland.gov.uk
The deadline for responses is Friday 19th September 2008.

As part of the consultation process, the Scottish Government have been holding public meetings across Scotland, in a range of areas (urban / rural / semi-rural / small towns, etc)  These meetings are part of a wider process of consultation which includes meetings with interested groups, focus groups with parents and young people, and deliberative workshops with parents. The meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend, and there’s no need for parents to pre-register their attendance.

The last few meetings will be held on:

  • 7pm on Wednesday 18 June at Oban High School, Soroba Road, Oban
  • 6pm on Thursday 19 June at Plockton High School, Plockton
  • 6pm on Monday 23 June at Tain Royal Academy, Scotsburn Road, Tain
  • 7pm on Tuesday 24 June at Forres Academy, Burdsyard Road, Forres
  • 6pm on Wednesday 25 June at Banff Academy, Bellevue Road, Banff

The last meeting will be in a large city, most probably Glasgow, but has not yet been arranged.  We’ll let you know about this as soon as we hear.

As usual SPTC will be responding to the consultation and we will post this on the website.
