A chance for you to give your views on the School Nursing Service
We have been asked by Catriona Kennedy at Edinburgh University to “recruit” parent volunteers for some research she is doing. Here is her message:
“You are possibly aware of the new model of community nursing which is proposed by The Scottish Government who has commissioned an independent evaluation. The proposals combine the current roles of School Nurse, District nurse and Health Visitor into one generic Community Health Nurse Role. I am leading the team responsible for gathering the baseline data. The team consists of experienced researchers from the following institutions: Napier University Edinburgh, Queen Margaret University, University of the Highlands and Islands, University of Dundee, and the University of Aberdeen.
“We are looking for parents to give us their views on the School Nursing Service. We would like to interview some parents and this could be at home or other place of your choosing or over the telephone. This will last no more than 60 minutes and may be considerably less depending on how much you have to say. If you are interested in participating could you please contact Eleanor at the SPTC
Here is more information about the study.
Review of Nursing in the Community Baseline Study
Information for patients and carers
Background
Nurses are very important and valued at helping to meet the healthcare needs of communities. There are a number of different types of nurses who work in your community, for example district nurses, school nurses, family health nurses and health visitors. The healthcare needs of the Scottish population are changing which presents new challenges to the NHS, and these challenges also impact on the nurses working in the community. The Scottish Government think that it is important to consider whether current nursing roles should be altered and are looking at what is good about current nursing roles and how they could be changed to better meet future challenges.
Patient participation
The Scottish Government thinks that it is important to find out what patients and carers want from nurses working in their community. We have been asked by them to carry out a study between February and July 2008 which aims to describe the current roles of nurses working in the community. We would like to know how they contribute to your healthcare and how satisfied you are with their support.
What we would like from you
We would like one of the project team to interview you (for no longer then 60 minutes) to understand how nurses working in the community contribute to your healthcare. However participation is voluntary and if you do not wish to take part this will make no difference to any future healthcare which you seek. Please be assured that all the researchers involved in this study have clearance to work with people under 16 years of age.
Where will the interview take place?
The interview can take place in your home or your GP’s surgery or school. If you agree we will record the interview.
What will happen to the information discussed in the interview?
We will use the information in our project report. This information will be confidential and anonymous.
Will I get travel expenses if I am not interviewed at home?
We can reimburse you for travel expenses for public transport, petrol costs and local taxis if you bring a receipt.
What if I change my mind at anytime about taking part?
You can stop taking part in the interview at any time without giving a reason.
